Modern Powder X-ray Diffraction with SmartLab Studio II
Held on June 22, 2026, as a pre-conference workshop to the 19th European Powder Diffraction Conference (EPDIC19), this full-day Workshop will teach you advanced powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis using SmartLab Studio II software.

From Data to Structure: Mastering Modern Powder X-ray Diffraction with SmartLab Studio II
Rigaku invites all EPDIC19 participants to a free, full-day, hands-on workshop focused on advanced powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The workshop combines focused theoretical background, hardware optimization concepts, and guided practical sessions using SmartLab Studio II software.
Designed for a broad range of participants, the course provides practical skills in modern diffraction workflows, including qualitative and quantitative phase analysis and ab-initio crystal structure determination from powder XRD data. Most of the workshop consists of hands-on exercises using representative datasets. No prior experience with Rigaku software is required.
Learning objectives
- Hardware configuration and data collection optimization
- Qualitative phase identification
- Quantitative phase analysis (Rietveld and Direct-Derivation methods)
- Ab-initio structure determination from powder XRD data
Requirements
Participants should bring a laptop with Windows 11 (64-bit), administrator rights, and WLAN. A temporary SmartLab Studio II license will be provided.
